The Institute for Health and Recovery #179

The Institute for Health and Recovery is a statewide service, research, policy, and program development agency whose mission is to develop a comprehensive continuum of care for individuals, youth, and families affected by alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use, mental health problems, and violence/trauma.

IHR developed the Nurturing Parenting® Program for Families in Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery specifically for families affected by these issues.

The Nurturing Parenting® Program for Families in Substance Abuse Treatment and Recovery:

- Is designed to address the specific needs of families affected by parental substance use. It focuses on the effects of substance use disorders on families, parenting, and the parent-child relationship.

- Combines experiential and didactic exercises to enhance parents’ self-awareness and thereby increase understanding of their children.

- Includes additional, optional sessions specifically for working with men and fathers.

IHR provides training, technical assistance, consultation, and support for programs in Massachusetts and nationally who are interested in implementing the curriculum. We have worked in many programs, including outpatient and residential substance use treatment, community health centers, homeless shelters and housing programs.
