Mission Statement
At OhioGuidestone, our mission is to provide pathways for growth, achievement and lifelong success.

Vision
Future generations are educated, self-reliant and contributing members of strong communities.

History of the OhioGuidestone
Founded in 1864 as the German Methodist Orphan Asylum, OhioGuidestone was originally dedicated to providing shelter for Civil War orphans and caring for neglected, dependent or abandoned children. In 1960, after a study with the Child Welfare League of America, the agency shifted its focus to serving children and youth needing specialized therapeutic programs.

Today, we are OhioGuidestone. We are dedicated to finding comprehensive solutions for families which has helped us evolve into one of the leading organizations in Ohio dedicated to preserving family relationships and helping make children, families and communities stronger. Our approach is comprehensive and integrated – aimed at creating long-term solutions for individuals, families and communities. It’s based on the belief that it’s our responsibility to help equip children and families to reach their potential and become contributing members of a strong community.

At OhioGuidestone, we believe that every individual and community is unique and that their needs are different. Because of this, we’ve created flexible, customized programs designed to help children, families and communities, especially those in need. Our innovative, comprehensive programs preserve family relationships, help make children and families more self-sufficient and reduce clients’ need for future social service or court interventions. They are focused on making a positive, lasting, measurable difference in the lives and communities we serve.

Our programs and services include: Behavioral Health Treatment Services; Skill Building Services; Foster Care Services; Residential Treatment and Group Homes; and our affiliate organizations including Family Life Child Care Centers, Invision Counseling Solutions, Personal and Family Counseling Services (PFCS), Stepstone Academy. We are a private, not-for-profit, charitable organization governed by a board of directors in covenant relationship with the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. Annually we serve over 16,000 children and families throughout the State of Ohio.

Our Brand Promise
We’re OhioGuidestone – built on a solid foundation of experience and expertise, rooted in faith and a legacy of serving children and families. Our range of flexible, customized programs build upon one another so they address every aspect of a person’s needs. We’re a solutions-focused organization with passionate people committed to providing direction and inspiration to children, families and communities to help them become stronger.

Because we believe that every individual is unique, we’ve created a continuum of flexible, customized programs developed to build upon one another so they address every aspect of a person’s needs. But no matter how individualized our programs are, one thing about them remains the same: they’re always focused on making a positive, lasting, measurable difference in the lives and communities we serve.

Home and Community Based Behavioral Health Treatment Services
We offer a variety of individual, group and family counseling options for many behavioral health needs including counseling, mentoring and other supports needed to address mental health challenges or family problems. Services are available at our outpatient counseling offices, in many local schools or at other sites within the community. We are proud to offer many of our critical behavioral health treatment services in the homes of our clients. Providing services in the clients homes helps us limit barriers to service and provide more effective, positive and successful treatment.

Skill Building Programs
Our family skill building programs are designed to help parents learn how to be a successful parent and how to provide a stable and consistent environment for their family. Through a variety of programs we teach parenting strategies, life skills, home management and other skills that help families function more effectively.

Workforce 360o
Workforce 360o, OhioGuidestone’s workforce development program, collaborates with other successful training programs in Cuyahoga, Lake and Lorain Counties to teach life skills and help students finish their education and become ready for customer service, nursing or other specific industries. We partner with many employers to assist our graduates with employment after they complete their program.

Foster Care Services
Through our treatment and medically fragile foster care programs, we offer placement for children who need a loving, safe home. Our foster caregivers receive extensive training and support and are licensed by the Ohio department of Job and Family Services.

Residential Treatment and Group Homes
We have several therapeutic group homes, as well as residential treatment services, located at Berea Children’s Home, our residential treatment campus, for children who can’t live safely or productively in their family homes. These programs include room and board and a full complement of mental health and educational services.

Affiliated Programs and Resources
We are proud to manage and/or operate several affiliate services which provide supplemental services, designed to compliment the programs and services offered by OhioGuidestone. These services include Family Life Child Care Centers, five high-quality child care centers throughout Cuyahoga County; Invision Counseling Solutions, a holistic, private counseling practice; Personal and Family Counseling Services of Tuscarawas Valley; and Stepstone Academy, our charter school located in Cleveland’s Central neighborhood.
