Mayemona is a native of Memphis, Tennessee and is a devoted wife and loving mother of two absolutely wonderful sons. Having been raised by a mother that was an educator who still gives her all, Mayemona observed early on the importance of possessing nurturing parenting skills. She strongly feels that a child’s home should be their safe haven. Mayemona has a Bachelor’s of Science in Education from the University of Memphis. During her studies at the University of Memphis Mayemona completed over 20 hours of social work courses and enjoyed them all. Mayemona decided this would be a great area to impact the lives of families. She has worked for the Department of Human Services as an eligibility counselor and for a state agency, TNCSA, as a case manager. Mayemona was first introduced to nurturing parenting in 2012 when she accepted the position as Parent Educator for the Center for Children and Parents at Le Bonheur. Her primary responsibilities included providing the nurturing parenting curriculum in the homes of families.

Mayemona is a life-long member of Upper Canaan M.B. Church where she is an asset for the Youth Ministry. She has taught youth classes, assisted the youth choir, designed and circulated event flyers, set up and directed youth Bible Knowledge Bowls among churches in the local community, orchestrated Back to School Rallies and planned and carried out beneficial field trips.

Currently as a Nurturing Parenting Specialist, Mayemona facilitates Nurturing Parenting groups in high schools, child care centers and housing residencies. Mayemona has completed specialized training in Stewards of Children, Child and Adolescent Suicide Awareness and Prevention, Infant Mental Health, Strengthening Families Protective Factors and ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) Studies. Being a Nurturing Parenting Specialist is very rewarding to Mayemona Franklin and she has a passion for her work with parents knowing she supports them to be the best for their children. Children should grow up to love and raise their children in the same positive way that is conducive to growth. Mayemona states, “If you are a parent and want to be the change in the world, one should look not only directly at themselves, but also to the children they are raising.”
