Sue Laney
Sue Laney is the Executive Director for the Family Nurturing Center of Georgia and co-author of several curricula including "Nurturing God's Way®" Parenting Program for Christian Families (http://www.nurturinggodsway.com), a biblically-based adaptation of the Nurturing Parenting Programs®.

As Executive Director, Ms. Laney provides leadership and direction in carrying out the mission of the Family Nurturing Center of GA, has overall responsibility for developing a sound administrative structure and various prevention programs, while maximizing financial and staff resources. She has experience in building a stable, predictable and diversified income base through fund raising, service delivery, strengthening the Board of Director's participation and leadership (both working and advisory), and developing a strong statewide presence.

Currently, Ms. Laney is serving as Project Director for the “Nurturing Georgia's Families” Project in Georgia, which provides training and consulting of Nurturing Parenting Programs®. For almost a decade this project has enabled organizations and community members in Georgia to be trained for free in the Nurturing Parenting Programs®, receive stipends for facilitation of the programs as well as free program materials and ongoing technical assistance to ensure program success. Currently, the project’s resources from the state of Georgia are in excess of $600,000 annually to prevent substance and child abuse.

Family Nurturing Center of Georgia, Inc., incorporated in 2000, was established for the expressed purpose of providing training and technical assistance in the Nurturing Parenting Programs® and the developing, training and consulting of other related programs to build nurturing parenting skills in families for preventing and treating child abuse and neglect. Research has proven that many of the same factors for committing acts of child abuse and neglect are also present in substance abuse. Therefore, the Nurturing Parenting Programs® are also used in Georgia to prevent substance abuse. The Family Nurturing Center of Georgia is one center within a nationwide network of resource centers supporting the concept of nurturing.

Ms. Laney also provides training in child abuse prevention, facilitation skills, and small business management. She also teaches a weekly Precept Bible Study. Ms. Laney is married, and has two grown children.

"I think you have done an excellent job in developing this parenting program for Christian parents. I hope that it is widely used. The many biblical references used make parenting joyful, spiritual, forgiving and patient. The Home Practice and Self Growth activities are fun and will help people put learning into action.

Since I am the Director of an organization seeking to end physical discipline of children in all settings, I was particularly interested in how the program dealt with this issue. You have taken a firm stand against physical punishment of children. You have done an excellent job of using biblical references to support non-violent parenting. I particularly like the personal testimonies."
