Judy Potter has been in the Social Work field for 38 years. Judy did her undergraduate work at Purdue University in Indiana and has a BS degree in Sociology and Psychology. Judy is presently the Program Director of Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP) and has been with the Program for 14 years.

The Independent Living Skills Program works with youth, ages 13-26 who are presently in or were in Foster Care or Office of Youth Development (Juvenile Justice).
The Independent Living Skills Program is multi-faceted and offers a variety of services that include, but not limited to: Basic Life Skills, Nurturing Parenting, Breakin' the Cycle Alumni Project, Wraparound Initiative, the Hope Chest, a donation center for our participants, Aftercare Services, Mentoring Project, Education and Training Voucher Program and our latest project "Moms Mentoring Moms" Project.

ILSP also offers the Child Welfare League of America, Positive Youth Development Training to Foster Care Social Workers and Foster Parents.

Judy has been an effective facilitator of the Nurturing Parenting Program for Infants, Toddlers and Preschoolers, Teenage Parents and their Families and Nurturing Program for Prenatal Families for the past 10 years. Training for Foster and Adoptive Families at Catholic Charities will be offered in the near future. Ten years ago ILSP was looking for an innovative and more experiential parenting program. After attending a 3-day Nurturing Parenting Program training in Cincinnati, Ohio, Judy returned to her agency, presented the Nurturing Parenting Program to the staff and since then has offered the Program to over 175 teen parents.

Judy has presented various facets of the Nurturing Parenting Program to Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana, "Kids Are Worth It" Conference, Daniel Memorial "Growing Pains" Conference and the Louisiana Coalition of Independent Living Providers.
