Family Nurturing Center of Colorado

The Family Nurturing Center of Colorado was established by Nurturing Parenting Trainers, Janet Jones and Rita Wiley, in July 2007. Janet and Rita have taught and advocated the Nurturing Parenting philosophy in Colorado Springs for a combined total of thirty years, first at the El Paso County Health Department, then at a nonprofit (founded by Rita) for the last six years. Both Rita and Janet are licensed therapists specializing in issues that affect children, adolescents and families. Check out their website at www.familynurturingcenterofco.com for a more detailed description of the services offered.

From 1968 to 1984, Rita, USAF husband, Bob and their six children lived in Arizona, North Carolina, South Carolina and Seoul, Korea. In 1984, they relocated from Korea to Colorado where they have resided for the past 24 years. Since 1987, Rita has taught, trained and advocated the philosophy and skills of the Nurturing Parenting Programs to thousands of parents, grandparents, children, adolescents and professionals in Colorado, Wyoming and WA .

She holds two graduate degrees, an MEd in Early Childhood Education and an MA in Community Counseling. Rita has received numerous state and local awards that include the Colorado Coalition for the Protection of Children, Child Advocacy Award (1994) and the Children's Champion Award from the CO Children's Campaign (1997). In May 2007, she was recognized at the annual El Paso County Family Law Luncheon with the Lohman Award for Excellence on Behalf of Children. With her husband (Bob) of 40 years, she has raised one birth and five adopted children, ages 25 to 37 and has three beautiful grandchildren, age 4 to 17.

Janet Jones, MA, LPC

Janet has facilitated the Nurturing Parenting Programs for the last ten years in Colorado Springs. A former high school teacher, she wished to use her teaching skills to help parents learn to nurture their children and stop the cycle of violence that so many of them experienced in their own childhood. She also found these positive and proactive skills were most helpful in raising her own three daughters, now 17, 21 and 24.

Janet is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with children and families, specializing in Play Therapy as well as families of divorce. She facilitates a monthly, court-approved class for divorcing families called, "For the Kids Co-Parenting Workshop." In addition, she serves as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to represent children in the court system.
