Debra Morrill was born and raised in South Dos Palos, California.
Debra received her BS in Nursing from California State University,
Fresno in 1984. Debra has worked at Merced County Health
Department since 1985 teaching parent education to high
risk parents and their children. Debra has worked as a public
health nurse performing assessments using NCAST, ASQ and
Denver developmental screening on high risk infants/children
and their parents.
Debra is the Safe from the Start Contact and attended training
with Dr. Bruce Perry to develop a trainer of trainer program
on the effects of domestic violence on children developing
brains. She incorporates the Nurturing philosophy in her
work with families.
Debra facilitates classes for parents that have been referred
from CPS, probation, and family court. She has co-facilitated
or facilitated classes from the Substance Abuse, Infants,
Toddlers & Preschoolers, Parents and their School-Age
Children, Parents and Adolescents, Infant Massage, Teen
Parents & Their Children curriculums.
The area Debra specializes in is working with parents that
are court mandated and have issues of domestic violence,
low literacy and drug abuse. Debra strives to present the
Nurturing Parenting Program in a safe and nonjudgmental.
She has conducted trainings for Health Department staff,
perinatal service providers and social workers on the core
concepts of the Nurturing Parenting Program. She is on the
Child Abuse and Family Violence Prevention Council of Merced
County.
She is a mother of three and a grandmother of one. This
program has not only changed my professional practice but
my personal parenting practice.
