Bette Hancock, MSSW, LCSW

Bette Hancock has been a licensed social worker for over 25 years. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in social work from Weber State University in Odgen Utah. She obtained her Masters Degree in Social Work at the University of Louisville Kent School of Social Work in Louisville Kentucky with a practice specialty in families and children.

Bette has been teaching, directing and training in the Nurturing Parenting Programs since 1985. She is a Recognized Trainer/Consultant and has conducted ongoing workshops on related topics. Bette received her training from Stephen J. Bavolek, Ph.D., who is the creator and principle author of the Nurturing Parenting Programs.

She has over twelve years of experience with Child Protective Services working with an intensive caseload of young sexually abused children as well as supervising a team of CPS workers. For seven years she was the Director of Maternal Child Health on a multidisciplinary Perinatal Team at the Jefferson County Health Dept. She was also the Parent Trainer/Consultant for Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville Kentucky. Bette was the Director of Family Programs at The Healing Place, a long term residential recovery program with in a homeless shelter. Bette developed, implemented and managed all aspects of the Nurturing Parenting Programs at both the men's and the Women and Children's facilities for over 11 years.

Bette maintains a private practice at Rose Island Counseling and Consulting Center in Prospect Kentucky. Her services include psychotherapy, workshops for professionals and contract services for many schools, churches, and other community agencies. Bette is also involved in research and writing on a variety of topics. She was co-investigator, who partnered with the University of Louisville School of Nursing professor Dr. Debbie Thomas Ph.D., who published the research entitled: Response to the Surgeon General's report: Changes in Self Esteem, Depression, and Parenting Competence in Pregnant and Parenting Adolescent Girls-In Press-Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing.

Bette is currently working as a Behavioral Health Therapist at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, KY. She coordinates the Chemical Dependency Intensive Out Patient (CD/IOP) Program there, doing Chemical Dependency and Psychiatric Evaluations. This involves completing Medical detoxification for inpatient assessments and making recommendations to the patients and their doctors to determine the level of care after the hospital. She conducts the Employee Assistance Program treatment, as well family, individual and group treatment. Ms. Hancock recently developed a family program component for CD /IOP.
